Mellageret Kafe (bar)  N78° 55' 35''; E11° 56' 08''

Mellageret ("Flour Storage") Kafe was built in 1919. It is a bar run by the local population of Ny-Ålesund on Saturdays and sometime Wednesdays.

It is not available for tourists. Opening usually from 10pm to 2-3am. It is a custom that people do start the drinking earlier on that evening at a so-called "Vorspiel" and go to a "Nachspiel" after the bar has closed. In Mellageret, there is also a small dance flour, which usually is quite crowded after 1am. Dress Code: As you like. But no shoes. It's the custom on Svalbard not to wear shoes inside of buildings.

Messa/Canteen (restaurant)  N78° 55' 25''; E11° 56' 03''

The main service building of Kings Bay with the reception, restaurant (Messa/Canteen), lounge and offices.

Dining is included with accommodation. Outside visitors may occasionally arrange to purchase meals there, subject of the spare food availability.
